A Closer Look On Board: Experiencing the Turkish Coast with Luce Del Mare
Charter Up Close: A Look at Life on Board
Spending time on board a yacht is the only way to truly understand how it performs as a charter experience. Specifications and images offer a helpful overview, but nothing replaces being there - appreciating how the yacht feels underway, how the crew operate and how each day unfolds on board.
In October, two members of the SNS Yacht Charter team, Dawn MacPhee and Helen Whysall, joined a familiarisation trip on the 34m luxury gulet Luce Del Mare, cruising between Göcek and Fethiye along Turkey’s celebrated Turquoise Coast. The visit provided an opportunity to experience both yacht and destination first-hand and to better recognise how this region works from a charter perspective.
Time spent on board remains one of the most valuable ways to build real insight. It allows us to fully appreciate not only how a yacht presents on paper, but how it feels to live on board for a week and how a destination unfolds when explored properly by sea.
Beyond the brochure
One of the immediate impressions of Luce Del Mare was how well-maintained and thoughtfully run she is as a family-owned and operated yacht. While her generous deck spaces, six-cabin layout and wide selection of water toys are immediately appealing, what stood out most was the overall atmosphere created on board.
The crew bring a warm, professional and knowledgeable approach that reflects both experience and pride in the region. Their understanding of where to go and when best to arrive allows each day to feel well-timed and unhurried. This sense of ease is often what defines a successful charter and is something that cannot be fully appreciated without spending time on board.
With accommodation for up to 12 guests and extensive outdoor living areas, the yacht offers comfort and flexibility for a range of charter groups. However, what proved most valuable from an advisory perspective was realising how the yacht operates in practice and how she sits within the wider Turkish charter landscape.
Relaxed family cruising
Time on board also highlighted how naturally the yacht lends itself to family or multi-generational groups. The flexible cabin layout allows for a variety of guest configurations, while the deck spaces create room for both shared time and quiet relaxation. A substantial collection of water toys keeps younger guests engaged, while short cruising distances between anchorages allow for easy days on the water and regular opportunities to go ashore.
For families considering a Mediterranean yacht charter that balances activity with comfort, this style of cruising offers a particularly appealing alternative to some of the busier West Med routes.
Discovering the Turquoise Coast
Cruising between Göcek and Fethiye provided a clear reminder of why Turkey continues to resonate with charter clients looking for something slightly different. Often referred to as the Turquoise Coast, this region combines dramatic scenery with a relaxed approach to cruising and a strong sense of place.
Days were spent exploring clear, sheltered bays, swimming in quiet anchorages and visiting ancient sites set among pine forests and limestone cliffs. Early arrivals into certain locations allowed time to enjoy them in peaceful seclusion before other boats appeared later in the day. It was a simple but powerful illustration of how timing and local knowledge can really shape the overall feel of a charter.
The coastline itself offers a varied and visually striking backdrop, with gentle cruising distances that allow guests to experience multiple locations without long passages. This lends itself well to charters where the emphasis is on relaxation, exploration and time spent together on board.
A sense of place
One of the most memorable aspects of this trip was the tangible sense of connection to the region. An evening on board dedicated to local food, music and traditions provided an authentic introduction to Turkish hospitality and culture. It served as a reminder that the most meaningful charter moments often come from experiences that feel personal and rooted in place rather than highly staged.
Time spent on board like this shapes how we guide and advise our clients. Understanding how a yacht truly operates, how the crew work together and how a destination feels in practice allows us to speak with real clarity rather than assumption. Turkey’s coastline continues to offer a compelling mix of natural beauty, cultural richness and relaxed cruising, with an atmosphere that feels refreshingly different from some of the Mediterranean’s more established routes.
Turkey’s Turquoise Coast remains one of the Mediterranean’s most rewarding cruising grounds. Speak with our team to explore yachts, itineraries, and the experiences best suited to your plans.
